Halifax, Family and friends, and the Ship Modeler’s guild
Posted on by
We were in Halifax for two good reasons, a family wedding and a visit with long term boating friends, Norman and Sarah-Jane. We normally visit with Norman and Sarah-Jane at least a couple times a year but it had been at least a year and a half since we had been down.
Our first event in Halifax was a birthday party for the father of the bride, my nephew John-Robert. It was a surprise party and we were all meeting at a restaurant near the hotel a few minutes prior to them arriving. It was a great surprise for him and we had a room full there for his birthday.
We were staying at Norman and Sarah-Jane’s and before the wedding Norman and I ran over to the Shubenacadie Canal in Dartmouth to try out his latest model boat. This one is a 1/2 inch to the foot scale model of a 66 foot scallop dragger. It took him 3 years to build and it is a work of art, from sheets on the bed, to a working winch system for running the drag it is a very impressive little work of art, that floats on her waterline and runs off of a battery and controlled by a remote control.
There were lots of pretty model boats there, some were very detailed and some were plain but their owners took great pride in them and had great fun talking to the other owners and visitors about their model how well it did, or didn’t run on the water.
